Required tests:
Strength Activity IndexMortarASTM C109

Compressive Strength Test of 2″ Cube Specimens

Test compares 7 and 28 day strength of control cubes and cubes replaced with 20% of supplementary cementitious material

Water RequirementMortarASTM C109

Water Requirement for Strength Activity Index

Test batches are made to determine amount of water required to create consistency within ±5 of control

Chemical ConstituentsPowderASTM C114Standard Chemical Testing of Powdered Cementitious Material
Moisture ContentPowderASTM C114

Moisture Content of Powder

Material is dried to constant weight at 110°C.

Loss on IgnitionPowderASTM C114

Loss on Ignition of Powder

Material is dried to constant weight at 750°C.

Soundness (Autoclave Expansion)Cement Paste PrismsASTM C151

Autoclave Expansion of Cement Paste Prisms

Prisms are made by replacing 20% cement with the supplementary cementitious material being tested.

Optional tests:
Drying ShrinkageMortar BarsASTM C157Increase in Drying Shrinkage. Comparison between 3 control bars and 3 test bars.
Sulfate ResistanceMortar BarsASTM C1012

Length Change of Mortar Bars Exposed to a Sulfate Solution

Mortar bars are cast using the materials of interest. Bars are subsequently immersed in a sulfate solution and intermittent length comparitor readings are performed to determine the effects of sulfate exposure on the mortar.
