ICC-ES AC511

Full Name

ICC-ES AC511 – Acceptance Criteria for Re-purposed-carpet Reinforced Concrete

Scope

ICC-ES AC511 establishes guidelines for the evaluation of re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete for the construction of slabs-on-ground. The scope of AC511 includes:
  • Material properties: it specifies the requirements for the materials used in re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete, including the type of carpet fibers, the cement paste (building code compliant Portland cement with a proprietary admixture) as a binding agent, and any additional additives.
  • Construction methods: it details the acceptable construction methods for re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete slabs-on-ground, including preparation of the subgrade, placement of the carpet fibers, mixing and pouring the cement paste, and finishing the surface.
  • Performance requirements: it outlines the performance criteria that re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete slabs must meet, such as compressive strength, flexural strength, durability, and resistance to moisture and pests.
  • Testing procedures: it describes the standardized testing methods for evaluating the properties and performance of re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete, including compression tests, flexural tests, and durability tests.
  • Evaluation and certification: it outlines the process for evaluating and certifying re-purposed-carpet reinforced concrete systems to ensure they meet the acceptance criteria and can be safely used as an alternative to traditional concrete slabs-on-ground.
It is important to note that this acceptance criteria applies only to slabs-on-ground that are not used to transmit vertical or horizontal loads from other elements of the building’s structure to the ground.
