ICC-ES AC51

Full Name

ICC-ES AC51 – Acceptance Criteria for Adhered Manufactured Stone Masonry Veneer

Scope

ICC-ES AC51 establishes the requirements for adhered manufactured stone masonry veneer (AMSMV) to be recognized in an ICC-ES evaluation report under the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC).

The scope of AC51 covers:

  • Materials: requirements for the manufactured stone units, mortar, and other components of the AMSMV system, including their physical and chemical properties.
  • Manufacturing: requirements for the manufacturing process of the manufactured stone units, including quality control and testing.
  • Performance: requirements for the performance of AMSMV, including bond strength, flexural strength, durability, and resistance to moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and other environmental factors.
  • Installation: requirements for the installation of AMSMV, including substrate preparation, mortar application, and jointing.

In essence, AC51 aims to ensure that AMSMV used in construction projects meets the necessary safety, performance, and durability standards as outlined in the IBC and IRC. It provides guidelines for evaluating the suitability of AMSMV for various applications, such as exterior walls and interior wall surfaces.
