ICC-ES AC509

Full Name

ICC-ES AC509 – Acceptance Criteria for 3D Automated Construction Technology for 3D Concrete Walls

Scope

ICC-ES AC509 outlines the acceptance criteria for 3D automated construction technology (3D printing) used to create 3D concrete walls in building construction. The criteria cover various aspects of the technology and resulting wall performance:

  • Material properties: evaluates the properties of the proprietary 3D concrete mix used in the printing process, including its strength, durability, and fire resistance.
  • Structural performance: assesses the structural capacity and behavior of the 3D printed concrete walls, including their ability to resist loads and lateral forces.
  • Construction process: evaluates the 3D printing process itself, including the equipment used, the layering technique, and quality control measures.
  • Fire resistance: assesses the fire resistance of the 3D printed concrete walls and their ability to maintain structural integrity during a fire.
  • Durability: evaluates the long-term performance of the 3D printed concrete walls under various environmental conditions.

The purpose of AC509 is to provide a standardized framework for evaluating 3D automated construction technology and the resulting 3D concrete walls, ensuring they meet the minimum requirements for safety and performance in building construction under the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC).
