ICC-ES AC37

Full Name

ICC-ES AC37 – Acceptance Criteria for Vinyl Siding

Scope

ICC-ES AC37 establishes the requirements for vinyl siding, with or without foam plastic backing, to be recognized in an ICC-ES evaluation report under the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC).

The scope of AC37 covers the following aspects:

  • Materials: it specifies the requirements for the vinyl resin, pigments, stabilizers, lubricants, and other additives used in the manufacture of vinyl siding. It also addresses the requirements for foam plastic backing, if applicable.
  • Physical properties: it defines the minimum requirements for the physical properties of vinyl siding, such as tensile strength, impact resistance, weatherability, colorfastness, and heat distortion temperature.
  • Performance: it outlines the performance requirements for vinyl siding, including resistance to wind loads, impact loads, and fire.
  • Testing: it details the testing procedures to be used to evaluate the properties and performance of vinyl siding, including tensile testing, impact testing, weatherability testing, colorfastness testing, heat distortion testing, wind load testing, impact load testing, and fire testing.
  • Installation: it provides guidelines for the proper installation of vinyl siding to ensure its long-term performance and durability.

In essence, AC37 serves to ensure that vinyl siding used in construction projects meets the necessary safety, performance, and durability standards as outlined in the IBC and IRC. This provides confidence to builders, contractors, and homeowners that the vinyl siding will perform as expected and provide long-term protection for the building envelope.
