ICC-ES AC17

Full Name

ICC-ES AC17 – Acceptance Criteria for Glass Glazed Unit Skylights and Sloped Glass Glazing

Scope

ICC-ES AC17 establishes requirements for the following products to be recognized in an ICC-ES evaluation report:

Part A: Glass Glazed Unit Skylights

This part covers the requirements for glass glazed unit skylights under the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC). It includes requirements for:

  • Materials: glass type, quality, and strength, as well as framing materials and their properties
  • Design and construction: details on the skylight’s structure, assembly, and components
  • Structural performance: resistance to wind loads, snow loads, and other structural forces
  • Thermal performance: heat transfer, condensation resistance, and insulation properties
  • Water penetration resistance: preventing water leakage under various conditions
  • Installation: proper methods and procedures for installing the skylight

Part B: Sloped Glass Glazing

This part covers the requirements for various types of sloped glass glazing products, including skylights, solarium roof panels, and patio cover roof panels. It applies to different building codes:

  • Uniform Building Code (UBC): skylights, solarium roof panels, and patio cover roof panels
  • BOCA National Building Code (BNBC): prefabricated skylights
  • Standard Building Code (SBC): prefabricated skylights

The requirements for sloped glass glazing are similar to those for unit skylights, covering materials, design, structural performance, thermal performance, water resistance, and installation.

In summary, the scope of ICC-ES AC17 is to provide the necessary criteria and guidelines for evaluating the safety, performance, and compliance of glass glazed unit skylights and sloped glass glazing products with the relevant building codes. This ensures that these products are suitable for use in construction projects and meet the required standards for quality and durability.
