ICC-ES AC16

Full Name

ICC-ES AC16 – Acceptance Criteria for Plastic Glazed Skylights

Scope

ICC-ES AC16 establishes the requirements for plastic glazed skylights, including both unit skylights and tubular daylighting devices, to be recognized in an ICC-ES evaluation report under the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Residential Code (IRC).

Specifically, AC16 covers the following aspects of plastic glazed skylights:

  • Materials: requirements for the plastic glazing materials, including weathering resistance, light transmission, and impact resistance.
  • Design: requirements for the design of the skylight, including structural integrity, water resistance, and thermal performance.
  • Installation: requirements for the installation of the skylight, including flashing, sealing, and attachment.
  • Testing: procedures for testing the skylight to verify compliance with the requirements.

The scope of AC16 is limited to the evaluation of plastic glazed skylights for their intended use in buildings. It does not cover other aspects of skylight design or installation, such as the selection of the appropriate skylight for a particular application, the structural design of the building to support the skylight, or the maintenance of the skylight after installation.
