ASTM C90
Full Name
ASTM C90 – Standard Specification for Loadbearing Concrete Masonry Units
Scope
ASTM C90 covers hollow and solid concrete masonry units made from hydraulic cement, water, and mineral aggregates. These units can include other materials and are suitable for both load-bearing and non-load-bearing applications in construction.
The scope of ASTM C90 includes:
- Materials: specifies the types of materials that can be used in the manufacture of concrete masonry units, including cement, aggregates, water, and admixtures.
- Physical requirements: outlines the physical requirements for concrete masonry units, including dimensions, compressive strength, and water absorption. The standard also defines three weight classifications for units: normal weight, medium weight, and lightweight.
- Sampling and testing: provides procedures for sampling and testing concrete masonry units to verify their compliance with the specified requirements.
- Acceptance and rejection: establishes criteria for accepting or rejecting concrete masonry units based on the test results.
- Marking and packaging: specifies requirements for marking and packaging concrete masonry units.
It’s important to note that ASTM C90 does not cover the design and construction of masonry structures, which are addressed in other standards and building codes.
