ASTM C55
Full Name
ASTM C55 – Standard Specification for Concrete Building Brick
Scope
ASTM C55 covers solid, dry-cast, concrete building brick intended for interior and exterior use in constructing structural masonry. These bricks are made from Portland cement, water, and suitable mineral aggregates, with or without the inclusion of other materials.
The scope of ASTM C55 includes:
- Materials: specifies the types of materials that can be used in the manufacture of concrete building brick, including cement, aggregates, and water.
- Physical requirements: outlines the physical requirements for concrete building brick, including dimensions, compressive strength, absorption, and moisture content.
- Sampling and testing: provides procedures for sampling and testing concrete building brick to ensure they meet the specified requirements.
- Acceptance and rejection: establishes criteria for accepting or rejecting concrete building brick based on the test results.
It’s important to note that ASTM C55 does not cover concrete facing brick used in facing applications, which is addressed in ASTM C1634.
